Foam Extrusion Lines
Foamed plastic is created through extrusion or molding processes. The cellular structure is formed using two foaming methods: either a physical foaming agent or gas is directly injected into the molten plastic, or a chemical foaming agent decomposes during extrusion, releasing an expanding gas that creates the foam.
Foamed thermoplastics contain bubbles that either remain intact during processing (closed-cell) or bond together (open-cell foam). The most common type, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), is a rigid and durable closed-cell foam with a typical density range. The EPS manufacturing process traditionally starts with creating small polystyrene beads.
