Film Metallizers
Metallized films are films created by coating a polymer film with a thin layer of metal, usually aluminum. The film retains some of its original properties, such as toughness and low density, while gaining additional features like reduced permeability to external factors.
Metallization is achieved through a physical vapor deposition process. The metal is heated and evaporated within a vacuum. It then condenses onto the cold polymer film, which is unwound close to the source of metal vapor. The most common films used for metallization are oriented polypropylene and polyethylene terephthalate (PET), although nylon, polyethylene, and cast polypropylene are also used.
